Apple Ridge folk duo, Martin and Lyn Doherty, will be guest performers at Blackheath Folk at the Ivanhoe on Thursday, July 7.
Martin and Lyn Doherty started performing together after Martin’s retirement from performing with Australian Irish bands.
Martin was lead singer in Raglan Road and Roisin and has toured with Christy Moore, The Fureys and the Dubliners among others. Lyn Doherty calls herself a “late bloomer” and discovered her talent as a songwriter after the family moved to the Lithgow area.
As well as original songs, their music includes an eclectic mix of folk, bluegrass, Irish and Australian traditional. Their repertoire will include songs from Keep it Simple, a recently released album by Martin Doherty and Leigh Birkett. One of these songs, The Coo-ee Brigade, has been accepted into the RSL Hall of Honour.
Folk music and poetry at the Ivanhoe Hotel, Blackheath, on Thursday, July 7 will start at 7.30pm. Floor performers are welcome and entry is free. Inquiries to Christine Davies 4787 7246.
