Dust off your red dress, grab a wig and bring out your inner Cathy at Woodford Reserve on July 16.
The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is an homage to 1970s British pop sensation Kate Bush and her 1978 hit Wuthering Heights.
Hundreds of fans will mimic Bush's eccentric interpretive dance moves from the song’s iconic music video behind Woodford Academy.
Organiser Miriam Williamson has been a Kate Bush fan since she saw the British songstress perform Wuthering Heights on Countdown as a teenager.
“We hope to gather the most Kates possible and re-create the Wuthering Heights experience en masse,” she said.
“So Blue Mountains, western Sydney and Central West ‘Kates’, this is the gothic gathering for you. Make your place in music history and be part of this global nonsensical event.”
The event started at the Brighton Fringe Festival in 2013 when 300 ‘Kates’ performed the ethereal dance moves in an open field. Since then footage of the mass re-enactment has gone viral.
Performances will be held this year in Britain, Montreal, Sweden, Israel, Atlanta and multiple locations in Australia.
Blue Mountains fans can even take part in rehearsals at Shine Dance School in Wentworth Falls on Wednesday, July 6 and July 13. Wannabe “Kates” from as young as nine to 60-something – including several men – took part in the first rehearsals last week.
Ms Williamson said participants need only bring a red dress and a “sense of humour”. “Beards are welcome too,” she said.
The Woodford Academy is granting a special $2 entry to everyone dressed as Kate on the day. There will also be buckets collecting donations to cover cost of equipment hire.
The community effort has been made possible thanks to the support of Mid-Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, The Woodford Academy, Modern Art Projects, Shine Dance School and local councillors.
People are asked to arrive at 1pm ahead of a rehearsal at 1.30pm followed by the performance at 2pm.
