A Queensland family has been cured of a rare condition, thanks to immersion therapy administered by the premier attractions of the Blue Mountains.
The Walton family from Red Hill near Brisbane spent seven nights in the region after mum Jill won the Blue Mountains Attraction Group’s (BMAG) Ultimate Holiday competition with her humorous entry: “My family suffers from Cyanophobia: the persistent, irrational fear of the colour blue. Our therapist has prescribed immersion therapy so this trip should cure us.’’
Product development chemist Jill, IT specialist Bob and children Jorgette, 9, and Kent, 7, declared they were “cured, completely cured’’ after just three days absorbing the crisp blue haze, topped with a dusting of snow.
The Waltons had only been to the Blue Mountains in NSW once before for a day trip and, like many visitors, believed that Echo Point with its world-famous Three Sisters rock formation was the only attraction.
“There is so much more here and the area is bigger than we thought,’’ Mrs Walton said. “It’s kind of groovier too.’’
BMAG president Louise Clifton said: ``We had more than 1,200 entries but when we read Jill’s we knew these were people who would really appreciate our grand backyard.”
Their prize included visits to Norman Lindsay Gallery, Everglades, Bygone Beautys, the Botanic Garden at Mount Tomah, Jenolan Caves, the City Art Gallery, Scenic World and more.
The seven-day odyssey was worth more than $4,400.
