Twelve swimmers from Springwood Swimming Club competed at the NSW Short Course Country Championships from July 2-3 at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
For the first time since 2013, the club was represented by a 12/U boys 200m medley relay team. Oliver Williams swam an awesome backstroke leg to start off (39.87), Hadyn Mitchell put in a very strong breaststroke swim (49.11), followed by Caleb Dryer with a quick butterfly leg (34.91) and Ethan Power backing up the team with a mighty freestyle swim (34.51).
For Ethan and Hadyn, both 11-years-old, this was their first time to qualify for country championships.
Two other individual first time qualifiers were Paige-Lee Stubbs (12), with a great swim in the 50m freestyle (32.13) and Lily Morgan (11), determined to swim her best in her 50m breaststroke event (42.34).
Caleb Dryer (12) had another successful meet with four individual PBs. He gained a NSW SC State qualifying time in the 12yrs 200m free (2.20.42).
Connor Ogden (15) continued his excellent current form with PBs in all five races, successfully qualifying for NSW SC State championships with a 200m breaststroke swim (2:43:47) with a PB of 5.38 secs.
Joshua Power (15) also competed in six individual events and claimed three PBs. Adam Goodwin (18) achieved a PB of 4.69 secs in his 400m individual medley event. Also competing with one great swim each were Rachael Goodwin (16) in the 50m backstroke (36.71) and Zac Reichel (15) in the 100 butterfly (1.08.52).
Noah Cariolato (15) also recorded five PBs from 10 events overall in another strong performance.
Springwood was also represented strongly in the 15 and over boys 400m medley and 400m freestyle relay events by Joshua, Connor, Noah and Adam.
