Springwood cyclist Amanda Spratt has won the 130km Queen stage of the seven-stage Thüringen Rundfahrt road race in Germany.
Spratt made the race-winning move on July 20, part of a leading group of 15 riders which had formed in the final 50km.
The 28-year-old worked well with her breakaway companion Elena Cecchini, and the duo were able to open up a significant advantage of four minutes over the chasers.
"For me personally, it is my final preparation before the Olympics and I have had really good feelings in the legs here so I think I am climbing well,” Spratt said after her victory.
"I love racing this tour each year. Last year I came close to a stage win but didn't quite pull it off so it's nice to turn that around this year and get the victory.
"Today has given me a lot of confidence, it's always good to get a win before a big event."
Following the final day of competition, Spratt retained her advantage to conclude the week-long race in second place overall.
Spratt heads to Rio shortly to compete in her second Olympics.
She represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympics, but feels a lot calmer about the selection process this time around, and more confident in her preparation.
“This time around I just have so much more experience, confidence and can really prepare myself well for every aspect of an Olympic Games both on and off the bike,” she said.
Spratt is in top form, securing fifth overall in the Aviva Womens Tour in the UK from June 15-19, and fourth in the hilliest third stage of the race.
That follows winning the Australian National Championships in January and then the uncertainty of whether she would still be considered for Olympic selection after being hit by a car in March rendered her incapable of competing in some key road races.
Gracie Elvin, Katrin Garfoot and Rachel Neylan were also selected to compete in the women’s road cycling events for Australia.
