Lower Mountains
Under 7s(1) 23/07. It seems we kept our last game of the season to put in our worst defensive effort. That was a pity because some players, like Coen Werner, Zane Williams and Nicolas Peat, had their best performances of the season with really good defence and excellent long range runs. Abbey Lee Larcombe and Isaac Leaney were their usual dependable selves with good service, elusive running and up the middle defence. Once again, however, our most dependable three, Jake Alliston, Benjamin Gomez and Lincoln McLoughlin led the way in both long range attack and dependable defence. Well done boys, with only 3 losses during the season it was a very commendable effort. Lower Mountains 24 (Tries to Alliston 2, Gomez, Peat, Werner and Williams) lost to Emu Plains 36.
Under 15(1) 23/07. Being 5 points ahead of our nearest competition coming into the last comp game it was always going to be a struggle to get the boys up for this game. This combined with a determined Glenmore Park side, atrocious conditions and avalanche of penalties against us certainly did not help our cause. To the lads credit they stuck to their guns and did enough to win the game 20-10.. Obviously we will need to improve on that performance to keep winning in the finals. Kyle Alliston,Cameron Kitching, Mitch Cory and Damon Lee played very well and Ryan Skinner, Nugget Malouf and Chris Weinmann were not far behind. Ryan, Cameron, Damo and Jesse Poulsen tries and Jesse kicked 2 goals.
Under 10s 23/07. Great game in terribly windy conditions, all of the team showed determination and courage. We fought hard in the second half to come from behind 14-0, but time ran out in the end. Cody, Haydn and Joe were top tacklers today. Wil scored 2 tries and kicked one goal, was his usual best.Joe also scored an awesome try and kicked a goal. Tanna, Patrick, Connor and Daniel were awesome in attack and defence. Liam, Adam, Ashton,Vinnie, Nick W,Brad and Nicholas H made great tackles and made plenty of metres. Congratulations on making it through to the finals boys. Coaches Award – Adam. Player of the week – Patrick. Defensive Award - Cody. Lower Mountains: 16 - Emu Plains 26.
Under 6s(1) 23/07. Our mighty Under 6/1s finished the season in spectacular form walking away with the win. Isaac opened the game up scoring from the kick off with other fantastic run, Windsor were quick to answer back with a try of their own, this fired up our boys with Cully running hard up the centre from the tap off, this was backed up by Andrew powering down the sideline palming the Windsor defence and scoring a great try. Jett was unstoppable in defence and attack making some hard tackles and great little runs, Jackson with his side step and speed scored just before the break. The 2nd third the boys continued the momentum with Bryaden scoring in the corner after a swift run up the field. Logan as always played outstanding making tackle after tackle and scoring an almighty try after an incredible run up the field. Lucas had a great game in defence and after making a tough run quickly off loaded to Isaac which saw Isaac score for LM and gave us a healthy lead going into the break. For the last 3rd of the season the boys came together as a team in defence and kept Windsor from their line time after time, Cayden after driving through the Windsor player scored a brilliant try and Jackson finished the game with a quick step up the field to go over the line taking the final score 32 – 12. Tries for LM Andrew Jones, Bryaden Frias, Logan Jackson, Cayden Lowe, Isaac Norton 2, Jackson Stanford 2. All boys should be proud; they have come together and worked as team to finish the season in great form. Thank you to all the parents for their support and a big thanks to Coach Marc Assistant Coach Katrina and Manager Cassie for all they did for the boys this season. Lower Mountains: 32 - Windsor 16
Under 12s(2) 23/07. A great team effort to get our first win of the year, strong defence from Jonothan Isaac Jonah and Ashton in the first half kept Blacktown to 2 unconverted tries. Tries to Charlie Jack BJ and Albert in the first half had us at 20/8 at half time . After holding Blacktown out for 3 sets of six on our try line,a great pick up in goal by POTM Jonothan Tiberi led to a 60m run to set up for Isaacs try in the corner .Good defence in the second half kept Blacktown to only one try and Alberts second try right on full time sealed the match for us. Lower Mountains: 28 - Blacktown City 12
Under 6s(2) 23/07. The boys came up against a strong St Marys side at Kingsway. St Marys scored two early tries however the boys came together and defended well from this point with every one of the boys getting in and defending our line. Noah, Luke, Kai and Cooper led from the front with great support from Matias, Preston, David, Connor, Craig and Maverick. On the back of great defensive teamwork, Noah, Luke and Kai all scored great tries . Matias, Maverick, Preston and David made some great breaks which was great to see following some good strong runs through the middle by Connor and Craig. Lower Mountains managed to get back into the game with the final score being 20 all. Thanks to all the boys for a great season its been awesome seeing them all learn and improve each week. Lower Mountains: 20 - St. Marys 20.
Under 11s(1) 23/07. Playing undefeated St Marys for the 4th time this year was never going to be easy but the boys gave it their all. Leading into the finals it was good to see the boys put the effort in, our defence and our line speed was good with St Marys scoring 2 of their tries from kicks, our attack still needs some work but I am sure we get that in tune at training this week. Players’ Player Tylar Jennings Lower Mountains: 0 - St Marys 24.
Under 11s(2) 23/07. Cold temperatures and strong winds made for a scrappy first half from both teams after an early Lower Mountains try. But the first half ended with a wonderful length of the field try to Bella who skilfully fielded a grubber into the Eagles in goal area in a threatening attacking raid from Brothers. A promising 10 – 0 half time lead was overtaken early in the second half as the Brothers big forwards rumbled the ball up the middle making plenty of ground and taking plenty of casualties along the way. At 12-10 down with 7 minutes remaining on the clock and Brothers in the ascendancy, Lower Mountains coaching staff and supporters were looking down the barrel of the teams second defeat of the season before two well constructed late tries sealed the Brother’s fate. Lower Mountains: 22 - Brothers 12.
Under 14s 23/07. Lower Mountains played Brothers on Saturday at Hickeys Lane. The game was played in terrible conditions with the oval looking more like a swamp than a footy oval. The boys got into the grind to score 2 tries of scrum plays and go into half-time leading 10-6. Brothers scored straight after half-time to level the scores. Kai Simpson ran a great line to barge over the try line for the second week in a row to seal the win. A Jason Oxley conversion put the icing on the cake. Man of the Match went to Brearsy for an all round solid game. Well done boys finishing outright 3rd by winning 7 out of our last 8 games. Tries Lachlan Brear 2, Kai Simpson 1. Goals Jake Hayllar 1/1, Lachlan Brear 0/1, Jason Oxley 1/1. Lower Mountains: 16 - Brothers 10
Under 8s(1) 23/07. Another strong display from our always improving team. Defence was strong across the park, but our attack stepped up to a new level. Tries to Luke Redmond, Ryan Horton and Lucas Knight set the game up well. Jayden Stanford had a blinder scoring twice and taking on the opposition’s big boppers in defence. Harry Wells made a mockery of the defence with his step, crossing for two tries as well. Patrick Seymour bagged a hat trick with a dominant running game. Billy Wright was sharp in defence and at dummy half. Euan Woods our versatile utility did everything asked of him in attack and defence. Thanks to trainer Phil Horton for always being there for the boys. Congratulations to Player of the Week Harry and Trainer’s Award winners Luke and Ryan. Lower Mountains: 50 - Glenmore Park 6.
Under 8s(2) 23/07. The team went out with a depleted side with three away but were lucky enough to have Jack and Phoenix form U7/2’s back up for them…this still left them with only 7 players up against a strong St Marys outfit who had the luxury of three reserves. Great defence from Braydn, Phoenix and Abby. Some great plays from Baiden, Jack, Elijah and Blake. Very proud of you all for holding your heads high and not backing down when the going was a little tough. Lower Mountains: 20 - St Marys 24.
RUGBY UNION

NSWSRU 23/07. Blue Mountains Rugby Union clubs first grade side headlines a great day of Rugby Saturday when the season proper comes to an end with the annual back to Lapstone day against Waverley. Six games of footy kick off with a fifth grade fixture at 9.30am ,on a day, culminating in the all important first grade clash at 315pm. Anyone who has not been contacted yet, no matter what your contribution was to the club, are invited to attend with further info from Chris on 0408 295 297.

TABLE TENNIS
Katoomba Table Tennis Association Weekly competition 20/07. The night of the 20th of July was a foggy wet uninviting night, but 8 players ventured out to play. Of course it was the first night out since the hall had become unavailable two weeks previously. We got to welcome a new club member, Ward O’Neil, the other seven were all long standing members. Two got through to the finals without loss. Aaron Van Buskirk (-63) restricted everyone he met. Here is a player on -63, who can count on having to either make up a lot of points unless he is playing against the best players in the comp. Yet only 21 points were scored against him in three matches after handicaps. In the course of these matches where he was unassailable he met fellow finalist and terribly good player, Niels Reuugar (-68), but even Niels was unable to impress Aaron by winning many points against him. Aaron was on fire. Our second finalist is hardly less deserving: Peter Gale (-43) is playing really good table tennis and has lately been in the finals with consistency. His victories were a lot closer than Aaron’s, but he had three wins. Notably he prevailed 21/18 against Manu Buhler (-51) . Manu is like Peter in being very competitive at the moment, and increasing his handicap, so it is an indication of form to get past him. Fred Szabados (-67) we all know is our long term player of quality. He had two wins to get the finals. He was beaten only by Niels Reuggar. Niels himself deservedly made up the last of the quartet to go through to the finals. In the first semi finals Aaron won over Niels and Fred won against Peter. In the playoff for third Niels won against Peter. So the final was quite interesting. Aaron had utterly blitzed everyone so far, whilst Fred had had one loss. However Fred’s wins were all fairly comfortable and it is very clear that the two best-form players had met for the ultimate match of the night. Furthermore, their handicaps differed only by one point. Fred finally broke the spell that Aaron had weaved over everyone before and took the final 21/14 - a great effort by Fred. By the way, don’t forget that at 1.30pm this Saturday there will be a comp at St Hilda’s church hall.
New handicaps: Fred Szabados -72 Aaron Van Buskirk -66 Niels Reuggar -70 Peter Gale -44.
The club plays every Monday and Wednesday evening, 7.30-10pm, at the St Hilda Church Hall, Katoomba Street. All players, sixteen and over, are very welcome.
