Blue Mountains City Council has reached another milestone in its efforts to improve waste management services across the city with the completion of a major upgrade of the Blaxland Waste Management Facility.
The improved waste facility, which has the city’s only landfill, features a new recycling and reuse shed expanding the resource recovery options for the Lower Mountains community and customers.
Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “The council has consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving the management of waste across the city.
“The upgrade at Blaxland is a significant investment in providing a modern, convenient facility that will ensure the council and the community can continue to reduce waste to landfill and increase recycling.”
The new resource recovery centre is the centrepiece of the upgrade, providing a sorting area for recyclable items, including mattresses, textile and e-waste, as well as a reuse shed to further reduce unwanted items going to landfill.
The upgrade of the entrance to the waste facility includes a new weighbridge, improved traffic flow, sealed roadways, a heavy vehicle turning circle, an all-weather awning and accessible toilet facilities.
The extensive upgrade follows the introduction of council’s new green waste service, already showing signs of success in reducing waste to landfill.
The Blaxland tip is on Attunga Rd, Blaxland, and is open seven days a week 8am-5pm except Christmas Day.
