Daniel Kelly has long held a passion for athletics and he is becoming increasingly known for his skills as a runner. He has a had strong track record of success since year 2 at Wentworth Falls Public School when, at the age of 8, he came second at district finals and equal first at the regional finals.
Recently Daniel competed in the State Cross Country Championships, coming in fifth. The competition – with the best in the state – was tough. Daniel said that “the end was so tough I was feeling ill”. Despite this, he continued on, focussing on completing the course in a strong position ahead of the main group of runners.
As a result of his success, Daniel will be attending the national competition in Canberra last this month.
Daniel trains during lunch at Katoomba high School and is in the process of arranging a trainer to develop his skills further. Currently his focus is on speed and fitness and the development of his long term sustained endurance.
Daniel says that the 2016 Olympics are a great motivator and he hopes to one day be one of the best runners in the nation.
