New role in Richmond Players

Curran has previously been seen in The Sound of Music and Oklahoma with Richmond players and has appeared in other productions throughout the Blue Mountains. He takes on many roles in the current production of The 39 Steps.  

In The Sound of Music, he appeared as the wonderful Uncle Max, a crowd favorite with his singing, dancing and comedy routines.

Curran said the current play has been “one of the most challenging and laugh out loud funny plays he has ever had the privilege of being involved in”, a spokeswoman for the show said.

“He can’t wait to show off the myriad of characters he has to take on,” she added.

The 39 Steps is a production that will see audiences be swept up into an amazing fast paced whodunit for everyone in the family. This romp is based on the famous Hitchcock spy-thriller, but plays it for laughs. Keen patrons will detect oodles of other Hitchcock references cleverly spliced in.

In The 39 Steps, a world-weary Englishman meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organisation called "The 39 Steps" is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale.

This multi award-winning treat is packed with non-stop laughs, scores of zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance.

Starring Martin Crew, straight off the back of his amazing performance as The Captain in The Sound of Music, as Richard Hannay, Emma Taite takes on three roles, and Joel Baltaks and Ben Curran round out the cast in a frenetic dervish of other roles. 

This hilarious production features at the Richmond School of Arts for five performances in August: 2pm and 7.30pm on Saturday 13 and Saturday 20 and 3pm on Sunday 21.
