St Columba’s Catholic College in Winmalee held a Green and Gold Mufti Day on Wednesday to send-off Paralympian Jenna Jones, who is competing in five swimming events at the Rio Paralympics.
Jenna is the first Paralympian to attend St Columba’s in the school’s history.
There were fun activities and games throughout the day, cake stalls and a barbecue, and students were encouraged to dress in green and gold and make a gold coin donation to raise funds for the Paralympic movement.
The day culminated in an assembly for the 15-year-old out the front of the school, where principal Paul Ryan and assistant principal Peta Sparkes wished Jenna well and said how proud the entire school community was of her.
Mr Ryan presented Jenna with a toy dove – a symbol of peace and part of the school’s emblem – and flowers and a certificate.
Students lined the school’s driveway, forming a guard of honour and cheered Jenna on her way as she was driven down the driveway in a buggy.
