The Blackheath rocket has been launched!
Blue Mountains City Council has approved the Rotary Club of Blackheath’s proposal for a rocket as part of play equipment in the town’s Memorial Park. Rotary will cover all costs to deliver and install the rocket.
Jennifer Ross, speaking on behalf of the Friends of Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Pool and Park and the Blackheath Streetscape Group, told Tuesday night’s council meeting the rocket was a “wonderful idea”.
“This is a lost icon,” she said. “We are pleased to support Rotary to get the rocket back.”
The original rocket was removed from the park in 1997 due to insurance and safety issues, and it ended up in Muston Park in Chatswood.
The new rocket will closely resemble the original rocket, with improved safety elements and interactive features for less mobile children.
