Springwood’s Daniel Zanardo will lead a team of Blue Mountains cyclists in a ride for charity on September 17.
Ride2Rescue is a fundraising cycling event that raises money for Destiny Rescue, a non-profit organisation that rescues children from sexual slavery.
This will be the third time Mr Zanardo has taken part in the event but this year he will be joined by a group of more than 40 locals.
“I just hope it gets bigger and better each year. I want to get as many people involved as possible, and get people to know about it,” he said.
With the help of volunteers, the Blue Mountains group will load their bicycles on bike-trailers and set off at 6am on Saturday, September 17 for the start of the M7 ride at Pearce Reserve, Kings Langley. The fundraiser suits all ages and fitness levels with 25km, 40km, 60km or 80km rides.
A self-described MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra), Mr Zanardo has gained sponsorship from his regular coffee spot, Cassiopeia in Springwood. The Blue Mountains team will be easy to spot in their Cassiopeia/Ride2Rescue jerseys.
“It will be nice to have our Blue Mountains community represented by these tops,” he said.
Over the last three years, Ride2Rescue has raised more than $100,000 which has set up and covered the running costs for two Destiny Rescue homes in Laos.
