ACO Collective will share the stage at The Joan when they will be joined by the prestigious Finnish string quartet Meta4.
The Collective is a critically acclaimed 17-piece string ensemble that delivers the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s regional touring and education programs Australia-wide.
Meta4 Quartet makes its Australian debut directing ACO Collective with Beethoven and Mendelssohn.
Alongside the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s fiery young guns, they will perform Beethoven’s last complete work as part of the mighty pillar on which the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s 2016 season is built.
This exciting program will also showcase an Australian piece by Peter Sculthorpe and a small gift from Meta4 country, Finland, to the audiences with Jaako Kuusisto’s Wiima. Audiences will also enjoy the unique experience of a quartet leading ACO Collective.
“This is unique, yes, and we’re very excited about it,” Antti Tikkanen from Meta4 said. “There are huge advantages with directing as a quartet, compared to one violinist directing. Our ‘four-headed-monster’ can take care of various instrument groups and aspects simultaneously; we can cover all functions of the score.”
Making their debut with ACO Collective in 2016 are emerging artists Benjamin Adler, Nicholas Waters, Riley Skevington (violins); Elizabeth Woolnough, Nathan Greentree (violas); Alexandra Partridge (cello) and Bonita Williams (double bass). Meta4 Quartet is the perfect catalyst to ignite the imaginations of the young string players of ACO Collective in their spirited touring adventures across New South Wales.
The show will be performed at The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on September 9 at 7pm. To book call the box office on 4723 7600 or online at www.thejoan.com.au.
