Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill has called on the state government to pass ownership of Darks Common in Lapstone to Blue Mountains City Council.
"In recent times bikes have been in there and there is increased weed growth, following a hazard reduction burn.
“I support hazard reduction but I don't think the state government, who has management of the site, has done enough to manage the site after the burn,” he said.
"Blue Mountains City Council is closer to the location and we have access to our network of wonderful bush carers.
"As with the Lapstone Tunnel, it think it makes more sense for the council to manage these sites."
The mayor met with local activist Alix Goodwin on site to see first hand the damage that has been done to the site in recent times.
"I want to congratulate Alix and other locals for bringing this to my attention. Without the persistence of locals we may not have addressed this matter in a timely fashion," said Cr Greenhill.
