The first and longest running art show in the Blue Mountains celebrated its 40th anniversary this past weekend with another successful event.
The major annual fundraiser for Springwood High School attracted hundreds of visitors including many shrewd buyers of art and artisan items and early bird Christmas shoppers.
Art show committee member Xandro Lombardi said: “The quality of the art this year was outstanding as usual. Once again, Springwood Art Show has cemented itself as a key event in the Blue Mountains ‘city of the arts’ calendar.
“It’s always fantastic to have renowned artists display their work but it was fabulous to see buyers also recognise the talent of our students and make savvy investments in these stars of the future.”
Mr Lombardi congratulated People’s Choice Award winner Sue Gasser and thanked all involved in the event including the parent and community volunteers; participating artists and artisans; the many sponsors; Springwood High School teachers who supported the event; TCP Day Tours which operated a free shuttle bus during the weekend; and guest judges Michael Jungura, Jane Canfield, Victor Peralta and Mathew Lynn.
He also thanked special guest speaker, former Springwood High School student and National Photography Portrait Prize people’s choice award-winning photographer David Darcy, who outlined his career path, spoke about his work on the Red Dog movies sets and his “one lucky picture” which was on display at the art show.
School principal Dr Mark Howie said the art show was a ground-breaking event which united the school and wider community through the powerful medium of art, which helped foster good health and strong community.
Held at Springwood High School and co-ordinated by the Parents & Citizens Association, the event directly supports students of the school with 25 per cent of all sales including admission, café, raffle and artworks used to buy educational resources.
