A Wentworth Falls student is the first to graduate from the Australian College of Make-up and Special Effects in Sydney with an advanced diploma in visual arts and she’s already moving in film circles.
Jasmine Lovelock-Dorfler spent almost three years completing her advanced diploma, which included the certificate four in make-up and diploma of specialist make-up services, and was able to focus on creating special effects like ageing, making moulds and prosthetics, techniques used in film.
She worked with extras, applying blood, dirt and fake tan, punching hair into body parts and helping to make blown-off limbs.
These skills proved useful during 20 days work experience last year in Bringelly for the filming of Mel Gibson’s war movie Hacksaw Ridge, to be released in November.
The 21-year-old helped make prosthetic pieces in the pre-production phase, and then worked with extras, applying blood, dirt and fake tan, punching hair into body parts and helping to make blown-off limbs.
“I’d love to do more film work,” she said.
She’s been inspired by the likes of Elka Wardega, the 40-year-old make-up artist from Woodford who won an Academy Award for best make-up and hair styling on George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road earlier this year.
A former St Columba’s student, Ms Lovelock-Dorfler has enjoyed applying make-up to her friends ever since childhood.
For now she’s focusing on hair and make-up for weddings and the fast-approaching formal season. For more info visit her website: www.jasmineld.com.au.
