Faulconbridge swimmer Jenna Jones has performed strongly in the Rio Paralympics, pulling off a personal best in one event, and making the finals in her favoured event, the 50m freestyle.
At just 15, Jenna has been competing against swimmers much older than herself.
In the 50m freestyle last Wednesday, she was second in her heat in 28:57, securing a spot in the finals that evening. There she swam seventh in 28:77 to 24-year-old winner Anna Stetsenko from the Ukraine who set a world record in 27:34.
In the 100m breaststroke on September 11, Jenna was fifth in her heat in 1:22:25, a personal best time of more than two seconds.
She was also fifth in her heat in the 200m individual medley on September 10 in 2:41:55.
In the 100m freestyle on September 16, Jenna was second in her heat in 1:02:75 and was a reserve for the final.
Then in her final event, the 100m backstroke on September 17, she was fourth in her heat in 1:15:62, picking up speed in the final to finish seventh in 1:15:14 to winner Anna Stetsenko in 1:08:30.
Supporters left messages for Jenna on instagram, like dianemhall5: “All the best in the finals. We are cheering you in like crazy over here in Aus.”
Jenna is trained by Nick Robinson, whose innovative drills have helped the teen fly through the water.
