The Blue Mountains Women’s Health and Resource Centre is running a six week program for mothers in conjunction with Mountains Outreach Community Services (MOCS).
Elaine Cameron, an accredited baby massage therapist, will teach women how to massage their baby as part of the program
“Being a new mum is often hard. Mothers are supposed to know instinctively what to do when their baby seems distressed, in pain or won’t sleep,” said Ms Cameron. “Massaging your baby can help with colic, constipation and wind as well as sleep. Not only is it good for the baby but also you, who can then be in a much better position to settle your child.”
Dr Sam Critchley will talk about post natal recovery and ongoing physical and sexual health including breast health.
Erica Want, a counsellor, will discuss the emotional health of new mothers. Liz Smith from MOCS will discuss the advantages of reading to your baby.
The other benefit of the group is that it gives the women the opportunity to meet other new mums to share information and strategies.
The group will be held at 124 Lurline Street, Katoomba on Thursdays from 10.30-11.30am beginning October 20. Cost is $20. Morning tea is included and bookings are essential. Phone 4782 5133.
