Labor’s Mark Greenhill and the Liberal Party’s Chris Van der Kley were elected Blue Mountains mayor and deputy mayor at the council meeting on Tuesday, September 27.
"We are running again because we represent stability, unity and experience," Cr Greenhill told the Gazette.
"We are both about creating a better Blue Mountains and bringing people together.”
Cr Van der Kley said he has a good working relationship with his Labor colleague.
“We have confronted bushfire recovery, financial challenges, environmental concerns and council amalgamation threats. We have met all of these by working together as a united team," he said.
The new council’s lone independent, Ward 3 Cr Shae Foenander, said she intended to back Cr Greenhill for mayor.
"I am not a member of any political party, however, I will be voting for Mark Greenhill to return as mayor. I do this because I am aware of the support he gave the community in my Ward during and after those terrible fires of 2013.”
