The Australia Piano Quartet – comprising four of Australia’s most passionate and innovative chamber musicians – illuminates intimate chamber music with youthful mastery, insightful musical conversation and impeccable balance.
The players’ passion for the piano quartet stems from their love of the extraordinary repertoire and the unique synthesis of strings and piano.
In concert at The Joan on Saturday, October 15, the four musicians – Rebecca Chan (violin), Daniel de Borah (piano), Thomas Rann (cello) and James Wannan (viola) – are regular guests of major orchestras and festivals around the country, and recipients of numerous national and international prizes.
The quartet’s residency at the University of Technology, Sydney has challenged boundaries across creative media and art forms.
The quartet, which seeks to be a potent and forward-looking creative force, has commissioned and performed world premiere works by Elena Kats-Chernin, Nicholas Vines, William Barton and Marcus Whale.
This very special performance at The Joan will provide an exciting and masterful conclusion to the 2016 Piano Series. The program will include Mozart – Piano Quartet in E-flat major K452 (after Piano and Wind Quintet); Brahms – Piano Quartet no. 3 in C minor op. 60; and new work by Lachlan Skipworth – Polychronicity (2016 APQ Commission).
The concert starts at 8pm. Tickets $50 adult, $45 concession. All tickets include complimentary wine, cheese and crackers at a post-show reception, offering the opportunity to meet the artists.
