Council has written to the NSW Transport Minister, Andrew Constance, hoping to find some support to pay for plans to help ease Leura’s bus chaos.
The number of tourist coaches in Leura is increasing rapidly, leading to safety and traffic concerns.
After considering a number of options, council voted to install a new roundabout and coach parking a block away from the Mall. But the cost is estimated to be more than $770,000.
Council has applied for funding under the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure scheme managed by the Premier’s Department.
General manager, Robert Greenwood, wrote to Mr Constance, saying the project would “contribute significantly” to the tourism economy in the Mountains by better managing bus visitors.
Mr Greenwood asked Mr Constance to support the funding application.
