Winmalee archers Jessie-Rose Walklate-Cooke and Jye Cooke have returned from the World Field Archery Championships in Wagga Wagga happy with their results and already looking ahead to the next world championships.
Jessie-Rose, 17, took home a gold medal in the young adult female freestyle unlimited category, and Jye, 11, was fifth in the cubs section for under 12s.
Due to the amount of rain that fell in central west NSW, the five-day competition was cut short by two days.
“Overall I shot well and was in third position after the first day. I dropped down a little with a slightly lower score on the second day, and on day three I had a great animal round with a PB of 548 out of 560 to secure fifth overall, but I'm still super happy with the result,” Jye said.
The duo are coached by bronze-medal winning Rio Paralympian Jonathon Milne, and would both like to contest the next world championships in South Africa in two years time.
Jessie-Rose is now focusing on sitting her HSC, and hopes to continue archery while studying a Bachelor of Exercise Science as a pathway to physiotherapy.
