Is your children’s capsule, car or booster seat fitted correctly? Do you need expert advice?
Blue Mountains City Council is giving parents and carers the opportunity to have their child restraints checked and fitted for free to promote the correct installation and use of child restraints.
Many children are injured or killed in car crashes each year. Some of these deaths and injuries are preventable or can be reduced if the right child car seat is used correctly. It is required by the national child restraint laws that all children up to seven years of age must be safely fastened in the correct restraint for their age and size.
The Child Restraint Checking Day will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 9am to 1pm, in council’s Katoomba car park, 2-6 Civic Place, Katoomba.
There will be Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) authorised child restraint fitters available on the day to check and fit restraints and provide advice on keeping kids safe in cars.
Council is partnering with Thrive Services (formerly Mountains Support and Lithgow Family Support) who will be providing brunch and running children’s activities during the morning. Thrive Services provide support services for children, families and individuals living in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas. They are located next door to council’s carpark at 2 Station Street.
Residents will need to book to have an authorised fitter inspect and make any necessary adjustments to the child safety seats in their car. The check is free, but if any additional parts (such as straps or buckles) are required to make the restraint safe, these will come at a cost to the resident.
Places are limited and bookings are essential. For more information or to book, please contact the council’s road safety co-ordinator on roadsafety@bmcc.nsw.gov.au or 4780 5000.
