Blue Mountains Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents are invited to be part of the Blue Mountains City Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Council elections.
The Aboriginal Advisory Council advises and guides council on matters relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Blue Mountains.
Elections will be held at a community forum on Saturday, November 5 from 10.30am–2pm at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, 30 Parke Street Katoomba. The forum will be convened by an independent Aboriginal facilitator, and refreshments will be provided.
A report on the achievements of the outgoing Aboriginal Advisory Council will be presented as part of the forum.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents present at the forum will be asked to develop and agree to a process for electing members to the Aboriginal Advisory Council. They will then have the opportunity to nominate and vote for representatives.
There are seven positions available on the Aboriginal Advisory Council, made up of one representative from the Darug people, one representative from the Gundungurra people, and five positions made up from the broader Blue Mountains Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Appointment to the committee is for a four year term.
If you are interested in attending or would like more information please contact Brad Moore, council’s Aboriginal Community Development Officer on 4780 5560 or bmoore@bmcc.nsw.gov.au.
Confirmation of attendance is preferred by Friday, October 28.
