Blackheath’s Uniting Church recently held a service for Police Remembrance Day.
There were 40 people present including the area commander, Darryl Jobson, and six police officers as well as the Blue Mountains police chaplain, Rev Kilkeary.
Unfortunately, no representatives of the other service organisations were able to be present but Trish Doyle, the state MP attended, as did representatives from the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic and Uniting Churches.
Rev. Michiel delivered the homily on St Michael and all angels, whose feast day was celebrated on the day.
The roll of honour of police who died in the course of duty during the last year was read, along with the details of their deaths. A minute’s silence was observed.
Eleni Vergotis, girl captain of Blue Mountains Grammar School, represented the younger generation and read the scriptures.
Retired commissioner Tony Lauer gave thanks for the opportunity for serving officers, retired officers and members of the community to gather together.
