A Coonabarabran man aged in his early 90s will face court on sexual assault charges allegedly committed in Coonabarabran and Mt Riverview more than 30 years ago.
The man was arrested in Coonabarabran on Monday. He was charged with committing an act of carnal knowledge on a girl under 10 years of age.
The offences are alleged to have occurred in Coonabarabran in 1978 and 1979 when the girl was aged four and five and the man was 52 and 53.
Another offence allegedly occurred at Mt Riverview in 1983 when he was 57 and the girl, a family member, was aged nine.
The man was given conditional bail and will appear in Coonabarabran Local Court on November 25.
Blue Mountains Command Acting Detective Inspector Adam Evans said the offences were reported last year, and the passage of time was not a roadblock to a successful prosecution. “The police take all reports of sexual assault seriously,” he said.
