This year’s music and readings for Christmas at St Finbars, Glenbrook, will feature the wonderful voice of young Mountains soprano, Briony Davidson. Briony, who has just completed her Bachelor of Music at Sydney Conservatorium, has already had notable public appearances including a solo role earlier this year in Opera New England’s La Traviata. Her solos at St Finbar’s will include Handel’s He Shall Feed His Flock and O Holy Night.
As always the Christmas story, read by members from Lower Mountains churches, will be embellished with wonderful music led by a massed choir, the Penrith Symphony Brass, Blue Mountains Grammar School Handbell Ensemble, soprano, tenor and harp soloists and the church’s historic pipe organ.
The 500-strong congregation always adds much with its thrilling singing of favourite carols including Once in Royal David's City, Hark! the Herald Angels Sing and Silent Night. As a special treat, the children will be invited to sing Away in a Manger.
Wonderful music from the choir will include Hallelujah from Handel's immortal Messiah and O Holy Night. The service will be on Sunday, December 18 at 7.30pm and, as usual, there will be a retiring collection. Early arrival is recommended. For more information ring 4754 1780.
