Community members are invited to get involved in the newly established Springwood Community Garden found at 168 Hawkesbury Rd - next to St Columba’s school gates.
Current members have been busy planting fruit trees, making no-dig and raised beds, hot and cold compost, and are ready to plant a mandala garden full of herbs, sweet smelling plants and edible flowers.
The garden was established to support recovery and regeneration after the 2013 bushfires with the support of CatholicCare Social Services.
The community garden has a committee of community members and is on site for working bees at 3pm every Saturday.
“Any interested individuals, families and children are welcome to come to a working bee to see what happens in the garden, and lend a hand regardless of how green their thumb is,” said Celia Vagg.
The garden follows permaculture principles, and with the assistance of more community members, hopes to build a children’s area, and further develop the garden into a beautiful, bountiful community garden for locals to enjoy.
On Saturday, December 10 there is a special event the launch of Blue Mountains Crop Swappers, 9.30am. Bring surplus garden produce to swap with others.
And on Saturday, December 17, there will be a Christmas picnic from 4pm. Bring a plate to share and explore the garden, all welcome.
