Blue Mountains hip hop group Thundamentals have announced the title and details of their forthcoming album, Everyone We Know.
Released on February 10 2017, the hugely anticipated album will be out through their newly minted label High Depth.
The album details arrive after months of lead up since street track Late Nights premiered on Blue Mountains radio station in July. What followed were album tracks Never Say Never, Ignorance Is Bliss (as part of their Got Love Initiative) and Think About It (feat. Peta & The Wolves) plus live shows where Jeswon, Morgs, Poncho and Tuka debuted new songs in front of thousands of fans.
Recorded at the studio of good friends Hermitude in Sydney’s inner suburbs, the 15 track release hits new heights not only for the band, but for hip-hop in general. Featuring, fittingly, a cast of friends – including guests Peta and the Wolves, Hilltop Hoods and Thundamentals previous collaborators Mataya and Laneous – the scene that Everyone We Know sews together is definitely original, a host of disparate threads drawn together to create an album that reminds us that what you say is always shaped by what has been said to you.
“Obviously I’m biased,” said MC Jeswon, “but I feel like this is the best hip-hop music production-wise that has ever come out of this country. And I can say that because it wasn’t me! I know that’s a big call and that it’s all subjective, but I really feel like [producers] Morgs and Poncho have taken the beat making, the music making to a crazy whole other level. As a rapper that just makes you feel so lucky – you have this quality of music to work with that makes you sound, like, well, better than you are.”
It was their debut album Sleeping On My Style (2009) that brought the lads onto the radar of the wider hip-hop community thanks to the singles Move It Up and Thunda which radio quickly embraced.
But it was the aptly titled Foreverlution (2011) that the band truly began to show that they were as eager to push boundaries as they were to give fans a great night out. Three years later their acclaimed third LP So We Can Remember sprouted massive singles including Smiles Don't Lie, Something I Said (feat. Thom Crawford), Quit Your Job, Got Love feat. Solo' and Missing You. The album brought them chart success debuting at #1 on Digital, Independent, Australian and Urban Aria Album Charts and #3 on the Aria Album Chart. It was also nominated for a J Award, AIR Award, Aria Award, FBi SMAC Award and the Australian Music Prize.
Thundamentals have launched their official online store offering exclusive bundles including limited edition basketballs, t-shirts and hard cover comic books designed by Thundamentals favoured artwork designer, Sydney artist Ben Funnell.
