Mid Mountains CrossFit hosted its first ever teens competition on Saturday, December 3.
The ‘Teens Throwdown’ consisted of two workouts plus a strength test, designed specifically for the competitors’ age and level.
CrossFit tests all-round fitness, combining weightlifting with gymnastics and cardio. The workouts were challenging yet achievable and included a variety of movements including running, kettlebell swings, box jumps, pull-ups, sit-ups, rowing and some barbell movements.
The event was a huge success and promoted some amazing camaraderie and social interaction amongst the teenagers. The organisers hope it will become an annual competition and be even bigger and better next year.
“Our aim is to motivate the younger generation to exercise regularly and participate in sports like CrossFit, to help them grow up healthy and strong, thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity,” said Samantha Edwards of Mid Mountains CrossFit.
