Katoomba couple Tanya and Andy Mein are presenting a backyard farming workshop as part of the Summer Harvest Festival.
The workshop targets families and shows how to make the most out of the backyard.
Summer Harvest Festival is co-ordinated by Slow Food Blue Mountains and the Meins’ workshop ticks all the boxes from the Slow Food perspective: Return to land, war on waste, support for low-scale production and perpetual education.
The workshop will be held in the couple’s garden in Katoomba on Sunday, February 26 from 10-11.30am, cost $5.
Yandel’ora is an Aboriginal word which means “meeting place of people”or “place of peace among people”.
Said Mrs Mein: “It is on a corner block and thanks to the welcoming community and us spending a lot of time in the garden allowing us to meet the locals walking past, it certainly feels like a meeting place of people.”
The workshop will show how an average sized block is bursting with potential. Learn how to create a mini orchard and obtain a year-long harvest, life with chickens and more.
”Although our block is a little under 700sqm and not quite the traditional farm we originally hoped to have, we have discovered over the years that you don't need the size of a traditional farm to have a farm,” Mrs Mein said.
