First round university offers were released this week and while some HSC leavers were elated, others were grappling with the disappointment of not making the mark.
Being raised in a family of engineers, former Winmalee High student Alex Murphy had hoped to study a Bachelor of Engineering in 2014 but with an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) of 68.6 he had fallen short of the high 80s requirements.
There are so many options and pathways available to get into your dream course, all you have to do is look for them.

Now with just one year left of a Bachelor of Business degree at the University of Technology Sydney, the 22-year-old from Springwood has proven there are other ways to fulfill your dream and encourages HSC leavers to explore their options.
“Firstly, stop worrying,” he said.
“There are so many options and pathways available to get into your dream course, all you have to do is look for them.
“If you miss out on a main round offer, do your research into pathways recognised by the university you want to study with. Call the university and ask what options are available.”
Through UTS:Insearch, a diploma pathway program to a UTS bachelor degree, Mr Murphy has completed a diploma of engineering and a diploma of business before progressing to a bachelor degree.
“After completing my second diploma, I realised I was more passionate about business than engineering, so I decided to only study a Bachelor of Business at UTS,” he said.
