Blue Mountains business owners, Maurice Cooper OAM and Kerry McKenzie, celebrated their 50 year anniversary of partnership in January.
Owners of the popular Bygone Beautys Treasured Teapot Museum and Tearooms in Leura as well as various holiday accommodation in the Blue Mountains, the pair have been active members of the community for many years, contributing to the local tourism industry and supporting local businesses and many charitable causes throughout the years.
The couple began their partnership on January 21, 1967 and celebrated the anniversary in style at the Hydro Majestic Hotel, Medlow Bath, surrounded by 200 of their closest friends, family, colleagues and employees.
With a theme of “Black Tie with Golden Glitz”, guests did not disappoint with their elegant and often extravagant outfits. While there was many a gold sequin in sight, perhaps the star of the show was Mr Cooper himself who dressed for the occasion in a specially made suit covered top to tail in gold sequins topped off with his signature bow tie, also made of gold sequins.
The entertainment for the night included two opera singers, Nicole Giezekamp-Bakija and Tessa Hayward as well as singers Brianna McClean and Samuel Wilson accompanied by Caley Jebb on piano, music from The Wintergarden Trio, and the Katoomba Jazz Quintet. Scottish piper Jim Young kicked off the evening with a ceremonial march leading guests into the marquee.
