The inaugural Blue Mountains and Greater West Rugby Sevens Carnival was a resounding success on Saturday, with Stannies Old Boys from Bathurst winning the tournament.
They beat the Lapstone Grunts – a side of Blue Mountains Grammar and Blue Mountains Rugby old boys – in the final 29-19.
“It was a dream final. It was a cracking game,” said tournament organiser Chris Nay. “It was anyone’s until the very last play.”
A 2000 strong crowd watched the action throughout the day, with almost 6000 more viewing live streaming of the games with commentary by The Sporting Chance.
Plate winners were Winmalee Wolves Old Boys over Blackheath Blackcats; Bowl winners were All Saints College Bathurst over Blue Mountains Grammar School Old Boys 3; and Spoon winners were Blue Mountains Rugby 2 over St Columba’s 1.
The carnival was held at Blue Mountains Grammar School and Pitt Park in Wentworth Falls. Games can still be viewed online at: https://livestream.com/BliveStreaming/Rugby7s.
