Blue Mountains State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will work with National Parks and Wildlife to improve the Echo Point on Clean Up Australia Day - Sunday, March 5.
“This will be our third year in a row working in this area,” said Jimmy Carothers, Rescue Officer for the NSW SES.
“Our volunteers this year will be using their vertical rescue skills to safely remove rubbish from the cliff line towards the Three Sisters from Echo Point.”
National Parks has allocated an area around Spooner’s Lookout at Katoomba which has a large amount of rubbish that has been dropped over the edge from the viewing platform. As the SES Vertical Rescue Team will be setting up ropes and equipment on the pathway, Spooner’s Lookout will be closed to the public for a few hours in the morning.
“Our members are keen to help the Clean Up Australia Day program once again, and at the same time improve our rescue skills” Mr Carothers said.
