Springwood Swimming Club’s 25 swimmers came away with a swag of medals and personal best times at the 2017 Mountains and Plains Summer Championships held at Lithgow on February 4-5.
Individual highlights included Evie Bullock (9) cracking under the 40 sec mark (39.84) in her 50 free and taking one gold (50 breast), two silver (50 free and fly) and one bronze medal (50 back).
Bryce Ogden (11) swam five personal best times and won a gold medal in the 100 fly and a 10.81 sec PB in the 200IM.
Eliza Huckel (11) swam seven PBs and a great 30 sec PB in her 200IM (3:18:97). Connor Ogden (15) came second in the 400IM with a 2.75 sec PB and placed third in three other events. Lily Morgan (12) came second in 50m breast with a time of 40.56 secs.
Congratulations go to Caleb Dryer (12), who broke the 12yrs boys 100 fly record, previously held by ex-Springwood swimmer now Australian 200 breaststroke champion Matthew Wilson, by 1.56s, and the 12yrs boys 50 fly record by 0.68s. His other highlight was a 4.85 sec personal best in the 400IM.
There were many other special moments on the day, especially for the club’s younger swimmers. Emilia Brown and Bella Stubbs, two seven-year-olds swimming their first team relay, helped the 10x50 freestyle relay team claim second place.
Of the other younger swimmers, individual highlights included: Blake Roots (6) with a PB in his 25m free, Molly Weaver (8) placing 5th in her 25m fly and Freya Wiessner (8), with three PBs and a first place in both 25m back and free and second place in 25m breast. Also Zoe Weissner (9), two PBs and placing third in 25 fly, Brodie Roots (9) with a great 50m free swim and Liam Moir (9), first in the 25m fly.
Lachlan Brown (11) also had a great day with six PBs including a 34.43 sec PB in the 200m free. Hannah roots (11) swam well in her 50 breast with a time of 51.46 secs. Hayley Moir impressed with six great swims, the best being her 200IM PB of 4.04 secs. Ethan Power (12) cannot be overlooked for his six PBs, taking 15.04 secs off his 200IM time. Paige Stubbs (12) came top 10 for all her events with a good PB in 100m back. Oliver Williams (12) swam into third place in both 50 and 100m free with a great PB in 200 Free, (6.11 secs), as well.
Highlights for senior swimmers included: Georgia Eyles (14), three PBs and a fifth place in 100 breast, Zoe Williams (15), two PBs and placing top five in four events, Joshua Power (15) placing top six in eight events, with a third place in 100m free, Zac Reichel (16), secnd place in 50m fly with a time of 30.63 secs. Adam Goodwin (18) claiming an impressive first place in 100m breast, second in both the 200IM and 50m breast, and third in 400IM.
Relay highlights included: the 12/U boys medley relay team of Ethan Power, Caleb Dryer, Oliver Williams and Bryce Ogden knocking more than three seconds off their entry time to take claim first place, allowing them to swim together as a team at the upcoming NSW Country Championships. They also grabbed second place in the freestyle relay as well.
The 12/U girls relay team of Lily Morgan, Eliza Huckel, Hayley Moir and Paige Stubbs claimed third place in both the medley relay and the freestyle relay and the boys 4x50m medley relay of Joshua Power, Connor Ogden, Zac Reichel and Adam Goodwin placing second.
