Former Winmalee High School student Anja Nissen will represent Denmark in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
The 21-year-old, who grew up in Yarramundi, secured her Eurovision spot on February 25 when she won the Danish Melodi Grand Prix.
“Representing Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest was something I'd always dreamed of and now it’s become a reality. I'm super excited about getting to Kiev in May,” she said.
Nissen’s parents, Betina and Birger, are both Danish but moved to Australia when they were young. Their youngest daughter won the Australian version of The Voice in 2014 and also competed to represent Denmark in Eurovision last year, coming second.
Danish national broadcaster DR invited her to take part again this year, where she won with the song, Where I Am.
"I'm so glad I was invited back to compete in Melodi Grand Prix this year. Having gained so much experience last year, this time I was really focused and proudly performed a song I co-composed,” she said.
The Eurovision final will be held in Kiev, Ukraine on May 13.
