Retro revivalists fell short in their world record attempt for the largest number of costumed people to dance the Charleston at the Hydro Majestic Hotel on Saturday, February 25.
With 369 dancers, the Blue Mountains Charleston Challenge at the Hydro Majestic Hotel did not reclaim the record it first set in 2012, then held for three years in a row, but that did not dampen the spirits of 1920s buffs, who kicked up their heels in drizzle and mist.
Blue Mountains Charleston Challenge artistic advisor Angela Corkeron thanked participants, who flocked to the hotel from around the region and beyond.
“While we didn’t reclaim the record we have fabulous fun, and that’s what community events like this are all about – coming together for a united cause, having a laugh and a good time,” she said.
“And how could you not smile as you look around this magnificent hotel, enjoy the gorgeous food and wine at the Majestic Long Lunch and watch the most magnificent sunset over a cocktail and not remember what a wonderful place we live in here in the beautiful Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.”
The Blue Mountains Charleston Challenge was one of three Roaring 20s Festival held at the Hydro Majestic Hotel, including the Majestic Long Lunch showcase of regional food and wine, and is part of an annual calendar of events at the hotel.
