A Winmalee High School student was bitten by a spider while hanging off a cliff near the school last Thursday.
The 16-year-old boy was abseiling to the base of a cliff at the back of the school at 2.20pm when he was bitten by a unidentified spider on his ankle.
An ambulance was called and Police Rescue attended and the boy was carried out of the bush on a stretcher.
Blue Mountains Detective Acting Inspector Adam Evans said the student was taken to hospital in an ambulance but released without further incident.
Fall from fire escape
A 63-year-old resident at The Ritz nursing home in Leura was seriously injured after falling four metres down the stairs of an external fire escape.
The accident happened about 5.30pm on February 24, and the elderly woman was taken to Westmead Hospital in a CareFlight helicopter.
“She is in a stable condition with injuries including a fractured left femur, possible fractures to both lower limbs and a possible facial fracture,” Inspector Evans told the Gazette. On Sunday, the woman had surgery for the injuries she had sustained during the fall.
Resisted arrest
A 20-year-old Hazelbrook woman, wanted by police for three outstanding police warrants, was found in a Katoomba Street cafe last weekend.
The woman was recognised by police who approached her and tried to arrest her. Police say she became extremely violent and was also allegedly attempting self harm by resisting arrest and hitting her head on the ground. The female was subdued, taken to Katoomba Police Station and charged with the outstanding warrants. She has been refused bail.
Car on fire
A stolen car was set alight in Springwood in the early hours of Wednesday February 22. Residents in Spring Street awoke to a car alarm going off about 3am at the tennis court car park in Spring Street and saw a large fire in a vehicle parked in the car park.
Police attended but the car was already well alight and completely destroyed by the fire. The car had been reported stolen from the Penrith area.
