Katoomba Public’s pupils are clambering over each other to have a go at the school’s newest addition.
Earlier this month, the school opened its new traversing wall. Principal Fiona Paine marked the occasion by outlining the many benefits of the climbing wall.
A dedicated team of Parents and Citizens volunteers spent two years fundraising to enable the school to buy and install the 15-metre wall.
P&C president, Linda Brillante, thanked sponsors, Bendigo Bank and BM Explorer Bus Company. Bendigo Bank’s Brooke Broughton and Jason Cronshaw from the bus company unveiled the plaque. Then it was all hands on deck as a group of students and teacher Sally Dare demonstrated their skills on the wall.
Katoomba students were looking forward to years of fun, exciting challenging and engaging activities, Ms Paine said.
The Blue Mountains are home to some of the most challenging outdoor climbs. Climbing has been included as a sport in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
