A 14-year-old boy from Quakers Hill is lucky to be alive after falling 30m while bushwalking in Katoomba on Saturday.
The boy was hiking the Mt Solitary walking trail with four other Scouts when he fell down a steep embankment and members of the group could not reach him.
They set off an emergency locator beacon and Police Rescue and paramedics were sent in on foot due to the poor weather conditions.
“Whilst walking in, the weather cleared for a short period of time which allowed the patient to be accessed by helicopter and winched into the helicopter,” said Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer.
The boy was taken to Randwick Children’s Hospital with several non life-threatening injuries.
The group contained Blackheath Scout Group members.
“This shows the incredible value of Scouting in developing resilient teenagers, well-trained and prepared to deal safely with emergencies,” said Blackheath Scout Group leader Russell Brown.
Cannabis seized
Blue Mountains police found two plants believed to be cannabis growing in pots in the yard of a Woodford home on March 17.
Cannabis leaf and cannabis seeds were also found in the home, and a small quantity of crystal substance which will be tested to identify the substance.
A 57-year-old man was issued with court attendance notices for cultivate prohibited plant, possess prohibited plant and two counts of possess prohibited.
Knives stolen
Specialised Japanese chefs’ knives and a ski jacket stashed in a backpack were stolen from a pub in Katoomba about 1am on Sunday.
A 26-year-old Blackheath man had left his backpack under the table for a number of hours, only to discover it had been stolen. Police will be reviewing CCTV imagery to identify the thief.
Dog sniffs drugs
Police and a drug detection dog searched 23 people on Saturday and a number of arrests were made.
A 33-year-old Katoomba woman was charged with supply prohibited drug and possess prohibited drug and will appear at Katoomba Local Court on April 10 after a police search allegedly found cannabis and ecstasy in her possession. A 23-year-old Katoomba man will also attend court on charges of possess prohibited drug after police allegedly found cocaine and ecstasy on him.
A 15-year-old Blackheath boy at the Blue Mountains Music Festival was taken to Katoomba Police Station and cautioned after police allegedly found he had a small amount of cannabis.
