Top author Nikki Gemmell brings her writerly craft to The Carrington ballroom next month when she discusses her latest book.
Gemmell is a best-selling author of nine novels and a newspaper columnist. Her recent book After is a profoundly personal book which describes the shock of discovering her mother had been liaising with Dr Philip Nitschke and the trauma surrounding her mother’s sudden euthanasia death.
In After, she questions her mother’s actions and asks if they should be celebrated as an act of empowerment and control, or condemned for the emotional havoc they wrecked across her stunned family.
Gemmell will be speaking at The Carrington Hotel Ballroom in Katoomba on Sunday April 23 at 2pm. Cost is $20 which includes afternoon tea.
Gleebooks Blackheath and Varuna Writers House are bringing Gemmell to the Mountains, as well as writer and Varuna alumni, Ailsa Piper.
Piper will be joined by priest and radio announcer Tony Doherty. The pair have written a book based on letters they sent to each other over a period of time. What began with an admiring email from a reader to a writer went on to become a vital relationship.
The book The Attachment is a tender, thought provoking, tragic and funny story. The two correspondents challenge, teach and encourage each other through a series of big questions and life challenges.
Piper and Doherty will also speak at The Carrington Hotel Ballroom. Their event is on Thursday April 20 from 5.30pm. Cost is also $20 which includes drinks and nibbles.
Bookings are essential for both these events at Gleebooks Blackheath 4787 6340 or by emailing victoria@gleebooks.com.au.
