It’s goodbye to Winmalee’s own version of Cousin IT from the Addams Family.
Keith Roberts’ Mad March Makeover is almost over – he’s 10 kgs lighter and the Cancer Council’s coffers are more than $1000 heavier thanks to his fuzzy efforts.
Mr Roberts, 62, an SES volunteer of 25 years, didn’t shave or cut his hair for more than 12 months.
It was a kooky, and itchy, cancer fundraising idea to make men of a certain age have their annual medical, and especially get their prostate checked.
“If I did not have my annual checks my tumour would not have been detected [and] my future would have a very different outcome,” Mr Roberts said.
“Australian men are so macho and don’t think to get check-ups … or to get their prostate looked at.

Mr Roberts tackled aqua aerobics and the gym which council helped fund for the cause.
He enlisted Winmalee hairdresser Sweeney Todd to cut his hair at the finish and Winmalee Lions Club also donated their help.
“I looked like Cousin IT [from the Addams Family] as you can see. Some were calling me the hairy man.
“It’s uncomfortable having long hair and a beard, it’s itchy and sweaty ... but nothing compared to what people undergoing chemotherapy are going through.”
The event, which has raised $1,375, had the support of the Cancer Council and the site remains active until April.
