About 2pm on Monday, March 27, a 16-year-old girl was part of a school group canyoning at Empress Canyon at Wentworth Falls. It is understood that she slipped on wet rocks and rolled her ankle. As a result, she couldn’t bear any weight on her foot. Police Rescue and paramedics were called and attended. The girl was airlifted out of the canyon by helicopter and unloaded to a waiting ambulance at a nearby park. Police rescue and paramedics walked down to the remaining party and helped them back to the Conservation Hut.
Cannabis hauls
Sydney Water employees found a number of cannabis plants in Lawson during routine work on March 22. The plants were found near Cataract and Lawson Creeks at the end of Ridge Rd. Police seized the plants. Inquiries are continuing.
More plants and associated materials were found in the bush on the Great Western Highway, Blaxland near Blaxland Public School. On March 24, residents walking in the area found 50 cannabis plant balls in black plastic bags, litres of chemicals used to help plants grow and 3 kilograms of cannabis leaf. Police investigations are continuing.
Leura robberies
There were a number of robberies in the Leura area last weekend. The offenders were able to enter the residences because doors were closed but unlocked. The thieves stole cigarettes, keys to a vehicle at one of the locations along with the vehicle, a Samsung television and mobile phones. The stolen vehicle was located in the Leura area. Investigations are continuing. Detective Chief Inspector Dietmar Almer said the break and enters provided a timely reminder to all residents of the Blue Mountains area to lock all doors at night.
Bikes stolen
Between 6pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday, two motorcycles described as a 2005 blue Yamaha and a 2013 white Yamaha, valued at $4000 each, were stolen from shipping containers in Megalong Street, Katoomba. The helmets were also taken. The thief or thieves cut a padlock to enter the container and steal the bikes.
Alcohol hands
Police are making inquiries with the Department of Health after a report that students at one Blue Mountains school were misusing hand sanitiser for its alcoholic properties. Detective Chief Inspector Almer said there was no criminal offence associated with this behaviour.
Dead parrots
At 8:30am on March 21, police went to Kitchener and Dalrymple avenues in Wentworth Falls after receiving a call about a dozen cockatoos that had possibly been poisoned. Full story P3.
