It’s the first time Marlowe Carey has entered art in the Easter Show, and she’s already a blue ribbon winner.

The 10-year-old from Hazelbrook won the wall hanging by child 14 years and under category for a marble mosaic of the Woodford Academy wall.

She also won the award for most meritorious exhibit in the under 20s section.

Marlowe has been attending weekly art classes under the guidance of mosaic artist Caitlin Hughes at Woodford Academy and spent a term working on her mosaic.

She said her teacher provided photos of the academy and she modelled her piece on a picture of the academy wall.

Cutting up pieces of marble to put together to resemble a wall, Marlowe described the process as “hard.”

And she was “so excited” to take out first prize.

Marlowe’s mum Meredith Carey was proud of her daughter’s achievements.

“It’s the first time she has entered the Easter Show. We are so happy, it’s just amazing,” Mrs Carey said.

During the school holidays Marlowe has been creating some paintings and drawings, and she’s also working on two more mosaics – a pineapple and a watermelon – that she hopes to enter in a mosaic competition in Tasmania.
