Organisers of the Springwood Foundation Day Festival have a simple message for the community: “I think the big positive is: we’re back!”
Committee member Kim Cowper is excited the community celebration is returning this Saturday, April 29 after missing a year in 2016.
“It was so important it happened this time,” said Ms Cowper. “[But] we continue to look for people to volunteer and to step up and be a part of it, to make the day about Springwood.”
This year’s event will have a “Back to the 50s” theme with prizes for best dressed.
The fun will start from 9am with more than 130 street stalls lining Macquarie Road and live entertainment on three stages.
Children’s rides and amusement games will operate from the northern car park next to the post office and IGA supermarket, where extra toilets will also be located.
Regulation costs mean there won’t be a parade or fun run this year, although community involvement will still be key.
Local volunteers will be recognised at the official opening ceremony at 10.30am, continuing a tradition of honouring the unsung heroes of the Springwood area.
“It’s strictly for volunteers in our community who go above and beyond… We have had some wonderful recipients in the past,” said Ms Cowper.
The three entertainment stages will be located outside the Royal Hotel, next to Telstra Park, and the main Oriental Hotel Stage will be located near the town square.
Local dance groups including dancers from LKM, Rosatutu and Dance Dymension will perform on the Telstra stage which will also host a performance by Blue Mountains Musical Society.
Live music from acts including Dr and the Badman, Nikki Gillis Woman of Rock Show, Ted Simpson and Tall Timbre, The Quokkas, and Will Roorda will feature on the other stages.
Funds raised from the event will go towards the cost of future road closures for community events like Anzac Day and Foundation Day.
The day will conclude at 4pm. More details visit the Facebook page “Springwood Foundation Day 2017”.
[The awards are] strictly for volunteers in our community who go above and beyond… We have had some wonderful recipients in the past.
