Katoomba North Public School students are taking part in the Wrap with Love project, providing knitted blankets for people in need in Australia and around the world.
The school is holding workshops for parents, carers and community members while interested students are being taught to knit during lunchtimes in the school library.
Studies have shown that the benefits of knitting include helping alleviate anxiety and depression as well as building confidence and self-esteem.
“Knitting offers a break from busy schedules and a refreshing detox from a technology-saturated world. Our students and community are engaged in something positive, they are learning together and feeling connected,” said Karen Edwards, community liaison officer at Katoomba North Public School.
“The greatest reward is that they are helping to contribute to a worthy cause and making someone else’s life a little better and warmer.”
Wrap with Love is a voluntary organisation in Australia, which provides wraps for people in need.
The Katoomba North Public group meets in the community room in the school grounds on Wednesdays from 9.15-10.15am. Members of the public are invited to attend. If people cannot attend the Wednesday workshop they can still knit 25cm squares and leave them at the school office before the end of June.
