Ward 3 councillor Shae Foenander has welcomed an upgrade of Springwood town centre’s public toilets.
"The toilet facilities in Springwood desperately needed attention. The state of the toilet was simply unacceptable in this day and age and has been a major issue for residents and visitors to the town,” she said.
Currently underway, the upgrade to the toilet block in the IGA carpark will include new sinks, taps, mirrors, toilet seats as well as vandal-proof lighting.
The work will be completed progressively over the coming weeks due to other scheduled work, said a council spokeswoman.
“Council has also recently constructed an awning over the bench seat adjacent to the toilet block. This is the pick-up spot for the community bus. Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre received a grant from Rotary to install an awning.”
Cr Foenander said while some people may find the issue “boring”, many residents had raised it with her.
"They say it is important to them and that it has been ignored - older people, and mums with kids. So many have expressed their discontent with the state of these toilets.” She said would ultimately like to see a full renovation of the facilities.
