Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts Katoomba brings Blue Mountains artist Michael White to the heart of Katoomba street art precinct.
White of Lawson will be showcasing a selection of his works in their masters vault showroom, located in their basement floor level. The exhibition, titled Michael White - A Retrospective Exhibition, is a body of work spanning more than 20 years, comprising both plein air and in studio work. The exhibition includes pieces from White’s American trips and pieces never exhibited before.
In recent years and after a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, White has become more reclusive and harder to entice into the exhibition scene, making this show a rare display of masterfully executed paintings.
It’s a show which should be on every art lovers calendar and every collectors itinerary for the year.
With a long history and well over a dozen solo exhibitions, White’s paintings hang in private collections throughout Australia as well as the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Dubai.
Gallery ONE88’s owners, Victor and Sharon Peralta, are excited to have him exhibiting in their recently opened space.
Victor, the curator and exhibitions manager at Gallery ONE88 said it was “an absolute honour to have Michael exhibit with us”.
“An opportunity to bring any artist out of hiatus is always exciting and scary at the same time. His [Michael’s] art is amazing,” he said.
“With the wonderful traditional style of his early works, during the period when he painted alongside Warwick Fuller, through to his later pieces and the US series, the vibrancy of his palette and the ability to capture light even in the shadows is awe inspiring.”
Michael White: A Retrospective Exhibition, will run from June 6 to July 2, with the official opening and celebration on Saturday June 10 from 5-7pm opened by fellow artist and friend David Robert Hill. Collectors private viewing by appointment on June 5.
