Former Springwood resident Angus Brandt has been named in the 20-man Australian Boomers training squad ahead of the FIBA Asia Cup in August.
Following a training camp next month, a team of 12 will head overseas for a series of warm-up games which will lead directly to the cup event.
Brandt, who went to Blaxland High School, plays for the Perth Wildcats in the NBL and was named the club’s most improved player this March. His Perth Wildcats teammate, veteran Jesse Wagstaff, was also named in the Boomers squad announced on June 13.
The draw for the FIBA Asia Cup was conducted late last month with the Helloworld Travel Boomers placed into Group D alongside Japan, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong.
The training camp will be held on the Gold Coast, with the Asia Cup tipping off in Lebanon from August 8-20.
Brandt is a former player for the Penrith Panthers senior men’s team.
